Updated Great tip from one of the commentors, not sure if it works but it’s worth the try after the installation finished, don’t follow the instruction to reboot the device,
Please reboot the handheld manually to keep your existing
bbm contacts.

Sure you’ve heard that yesterday BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 was leaked. This is a huge improvement over the existing Messenger. Blackberry OS leaked it first to my knowledge yesterday afternoon here http://www.blackberryos.com/forums/blackberry-storm-9530/4005-want-new-bbm-your-storm-here.html Then @Omie set all of them up for OTA installation. BBM 5.0 is available for 83xx/81xx running OS4.5.0.131 or later, OS4.6, Tour 4.7.1, Storm OS 4.7, Bold OS4.6 Curve 8900 OS4.6.1 OTA links are on @Omie ’s site as well as linked below. THE 4.7.1 OTA WILL WORK ON 8900/9000 OS 5.0

I don’t think it will work on 8310, with .162 if you have gotten it to work let me know. It will not work on VZW 8330 with .77 DON’T Try it 83xx/81xx/88xx

IF YOU DOWNLOAD ANY OF THESE AND IT DOESN’T WORK, IT WILL PROBABLY REMOVE YOUR BLACKBERRY MESSENGER ALL TOGETHER. Backup your stuff, it’s beta software, don’t try and install on an 83xx/81xx unless your running .131 or later. Push alt+shift+h to see your OS version 4.5.0.131 or later is what you need. Don’t complain to me if they don’t work. They are working for more people than not. It worked for me on my 8330, I lost my contacts, but it installed and works great!

Let me know if any of them don’t work.

    If you made a backup you’ll have to restore. Other wise you’ll have to upgradre ypour os and reinstall bbm5.

    just sharing, my friends old bbm just accidentally deleted by his son, and i ask him try to install new bbm 5 ota, is working. device 8310 os 4.5.0.110
